A variety of inpatient and same day surgery procedures are available at Moundview Memorial Hospital & Clinics. Specialty surgeries and procedures are performed on a scheduled basis by consulting physicians.
A same day surgery is a planned procedure, not an emergency surgery. It does not require an overnight stay in the hospital, barring complications or continued healthcare needs. In 2005, the same day surgery unit expanded into space that became available when the emergency department relocated. Same day surgery patients now receive all of the care they need in one convenient setting including: registration, pre-operative procedures, surgery and recovery. A waiting room with television is available for family and friends.
Same day procedures available at Moundview include:
- breast augmentation/implants
- cataract surgery (no-stitch with lens implant and secondary laser)
- eye repair
- orthopedics (knee and shoulder arthroscopy, rotator cuff repair, carpal tunnel release and laminectomy- back surgery removing a small portion of the vertebrae to relieve pressure on nerves in the lower spine)
- laparoscopic surgery (gall bladder removal, tubal ligation, appendectomy, and ovarian cystectomies)
- facial plastic surgery
- podiatry (hammer toe correction and bunionectomy)
- urology (cystoscopy-an exam of the bladder, biopsies, vasectomy, and cryoprostectomy)
- general surgeries (such as hernia repair, and breast biopsy)
- invasive diagnostic procedures to examine the bowel (colonoscopy) and stomach (gastroscopy)
Inpatient procedures (requiring a hospital stay) available at Moundview include:
- total knee replacement
- total hip replacement
- bowel resections
- TURP (prostatectomy)
- Achilles tendon repair
- ACL reconstruction
