Reducing the amount of fat, sugar, and salt in your favorite recipes can make them a lot healthier. Often these changes will not affect the taste or texture.
· Reduce the amount of fat in your recipe by replacing whole milk with low-fat milk and replacing half the butter, shortening, or oil with unsweetened applesauce.
· Reduce the amount of sugar by reducing the amount called for by your recipe from one third to one-half and adding spices and other flavorings that will enhance the sweetness such as cinnamon or vanilla extract.
· Reduce the salt by one-half except in baked goods that require yeast. Recipes with yeast need the full amount of salt for leavening.
